Ethereum, the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, has recently seen a significant drop in its daily transaction fees, falling below $1 million for the first time in five months.

Ethereum Fees Drop Below $1 Million for First Time in Five Months

On February 8, data revealed that Ethereum’s daily transaction fees had dropped significantly, marking the first time in five months that the fees fell below $1 million. This decline has sparked mixed reactions, with some seeing it as a sign of weakening demand while others believe it may just be a temporary dip. The asset is also facing pressure from a high level of short selling through futures contracts. The last prolonged fee slump Ethereum experienced was between August 17 and September 8, 2024, and a similar drop had not occurred since November 2020.

Linea Airdrop: Will the Token Fail or Breathe Life into L2s?

Linea, a Layer 2 protocol for Ethereum, is scheduled to launch its token in Q1 2025. Pre-market pricing for the LINEA token has already exceeded $3, indicating strong investor interest. The airdrop, a crucial aspect of Linea's network activity and reputation, is expected to play a significant role in the project's success. However, the overall Layer 2 market faces challenges, as evidenced by the struggles of other projects like Scroll and Starknet. Despite Linea's stable metrics, there is no guarantee of the project's success or further growth after listing.

Ethereum Gas Prices Hit Five-Year Low, Community Expects Price Recovery

Ethereum's average gas charge for a transaction has fallen to its lowest point in the previous five years, reaching 0.808 gwei or $0.05 per transaction. This marks a historic occasion for the second-largest cryptocurrency, which has seen gas prices rise as high as $100 in previous years. Amidst this significant drop, the Ethereum community is anticipating a price rise towards $4,000 or at least a recovery for ETH this month.

Ethereum CME Shorts Surge to Record Highs, Potential Short Squeeze Fuels Market Volatility

Ethereum's short positions on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) have soared by over 40% to a new all-time high, driven by rising negative sentiments. This increase, coupled with rising ETH ETF inflows, indicates that investors may be leveraging a cash-and-carry strategy. Despite this bearish sentiment, Ethereum gained 2% on Monday, leading to speculation of a potential short squeeze that could fuel further market volatility. The cryptocurrency could rally to the upper boundary of a descending channel, but faces a key hurdle NEAR $2,817.
